Bays Brewery in Paignton, Devon, is a family-run brewery that has been creating exceptional, multi-award-winning beers in the stunning coastal resort of Torbay since 2007.
It began life when brothers Mark and Peter Salmon joined forces with their brother-in-law Will Freeland to realise their dream of creating quality beer inspired by their hometown of Torbay.
Launched in June 2007 as a 20-barrel brew plant in Aspen Way, the first of its two brews, Best and Gold, proved a hit among pub goers seeking a Torbay tipple to quench their thirst.
A string of other ales swiftly followed suit, with the much-loved brewery today serving up three permanent ales, Topsail, Pure Gold and Devon Dumpling, all offering a distinct flavour of Devon, alongside its Windfall Cider.
In June 2015, Bays jumped on the craft beer bandwagon with the launch of its Devon Rock Craft Lager which has fast become a firm favourite, winning multiple regional and national awards.
The brewery then added the hugely popular Devon Cove Pale Ale to its growing pint portfolio, with a low-alcohol alternative Rock Steady making its debut in June 2021..
Alongside its year-round offerings, Bays also produces four seasonal beers each year through a charity brew initiative aimed at giving back to people and organizations across Devon.
In 2025 alone, its charity beers raised £4,815 for four local charities, while the total donations raised by its popular ‘animal ales’ in partnership with Paignton Zoo now stands at more than £30,000.
Furthermore, with Bays lucky to share its patch with equally passionate Devon drink suppliers, it is proud to champion their fantastic local offerings alongside its own through its Devon Drinks concept.
Born from a desire to help fellow drink producers weather the turbulent times of the pandemic, the one-stop-shop concept sees Bays bring together the very best Devon producers all under one roof.
By providing a platform for fellow suppliers to showcase their produce, Bays customers can order from the likes of Sharpham Wines, Hunts Cider and Devon Rum Co, for delivery direct to their door.
As well as being passionately committed to bringing the best of Devon to people’s doorsteps, Bays is also proud to fly the flag for local in other ways, supporting 35 community events in 2025 alone.
The brewery is also a long-standing sponsor of local sports teams including Paignton and Torquay Rugby and Torquay United F.C, as well as working closely with Rowcroft Hospice.
As a main sponsor of ‘The Big Tackle’, Bays provides a bar facility for the event, in addition to a free pint for participants, as well as collecting festive firs as part of its Christmas tree recycling service.
Finally, beer tastes better when it’s been brewed with the planet in mind, with Bays’ rooftop solar panels powering its pints, and ‘spent grains’ given to a local farmer to feed his cattle.
