Torquay United AFC prides itself as being a family friendly, all-inclusive Club at the heart of the local community. As the only professional sporting Club within the Bay, United is delighted to be using its heritage and profile to help support and promote worthy causes taking place within its locality.
Formed in 1899 by a group of school leavers, Torquay United AFC has represented the local community for over 120 years, during which its long history has included memorable cup runs, giant killings, promotions, and even the off visit to Wembley Stadium!
Having spent nearly 80 years in the Football League, Torquay United AFC is determined to establish itself amongst English football’s elite clubs once again.
Based at Plainmoor, the ground is regarded by supporters as one of the most attractive and welcoming in the country, with many rival Clubs’ fanbases choosing the fixture as an opportunity to visit the English Riviera.
Aided by devoted supporters, home matches regularly attract attendances between 2,000-5,000 people, ensuring Torbay’s only professional sporting team are always the biggest show in town. The Club can also boast a large travelling contingent, with United fans travelling in their hundreds, sometimes thousands, to away matches all over the country.
Although proud of its heritage, Torquay United AFC also prides itself on being a forward thinking, ambitious Club, which is focused on scaling new heights in the future.
The Club believes that only by showing a commitment to working together, can the very best be attained for our local community. Torquay United AFC has a bold vision for both the Football Club itself and the area in which it is located, and will continue striving to be a strong and active part of a thriving and prosperous future for Torbay.
United has hosted a number of Community Days in recent years which has seen the Club link up with a number of local causes, with Torquay United AFC looking forward to more community initiatives for 2023/24 and beyond!
In October 2021 United linked up with Sport Torbay, Torbay Weekly and Torbay Council, as well as the local community to offer 1,000 free tickets for Torbay-based community groups. The Club also went on to welcome NHS and care staff, and also made up to 1,000 free tickets available for young girls and females upon announcing its partnership with Her Game Too, becoming the first club to offer an entire stand to the campaign.
An inclusive, family-focused Club, Torquay United AFC is right at the heart of its local community, and in line with those core values, is delighted to have established partnerships with a number of local and national organisations, as well as assisting fundraising for a number of worthy causes.
